Woman robbed in taxi

ALEXANDRA – Taxi driver's 'buddies' rob female passenger.

Alex police are investigating a case of a female taxi passenger who was robbed as she was passing through the township on her way to Rivonia.

The incident happened at 9.30pm on 15 November. Police spokesperson, Captain Allie Kodisang said the victim boarded the taxi in Joburg central and was told by the driver that she could catch another taxi to Rivonia from Alex. On the way, three male passengers who seemed to know the driver, also boarded the taxi and kept talking to the driver. After all other passengers were dropped off, one of the suspects moved next to the victim and demanded her handbag. When she resisted, the suspect allegedly forcibly took the bag which contained her cellphone, passport, house keys and R435 in cash. All items stolen were valued at R4 000.

The victim was dropped off in Alex. It wasn’t specified how she proceeded on her journey after reporting the incident at the Alex Police Station.
