Woman and teenager escape rape attempts

ALEXANDRA – Police hunt men for attempted rape of a woman and 17-year-old.

Police are investigating two separate cases of attempted rape and robbery of a woman and a teenager.

Police spokesperson Captain Allie Kodisang, said in the one incident the woman was walking on 3rd Street at about midday on 20 November when the suspects approached her. One pointed a firearm at her and the other pulled out a knife, and took her Nokia cellphone. They then allegedly pushed her into a passageway where they partially undressed her.

One of the suspects was about to rape her when they were disturbed by a passing motorist. This enabled the half-naked victim to free herself and run into a nearby house where two women assisted her. The suspects allegedly followed her to the house and threatened to come after her rescuers before they left.

In the other case, a 17-year-old girl escaped an alleged attempted rape during a robbery at her boyfriend’s 18th Avenue home.

Kodisang said the victim – who was alone in the house – was awakened at midnight on 20 November by four unknown suspects. One of the suspects allegedly threatened her with an iron rod before choking her as he attempted to rape her.

The other three were ransacking the house. They took a plasma television and as they left, they told the one attempting to rape the victim to come with them. No arrests have been made.
