Murder accused on bail, awaits trial

ALEXANDRA – Accused murderer at traditional healers' ceremony, awaits trial.

An accused on bail for the murder of a woman at a traditional healers’ ceremony, will stand trial on 21 November at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that the 23-year-old accused, who lived on the same premises with the victim on 11th Road in Kew, stabbed her numerous times on the evening of 6 August this year, resulting in her death.

The accused was playing music which disturbed the ceremony participants, and he was asked by one of the participants to lower the volume. This apparently infuriated him and he attacked the participant. When another participant tried to separate the two, the accused turned on him with his fists.

The second participant apologised to the accused and went to tell the others about the incident who were in the house. The now deceased approached the accused and asked him to stop fighting but he instead left without responding to her, only to return wielding a gun which he allegedly used to beat the deceased.

When the second participant came to her rescue, the accused allegedly attacked him again and they wrestled for the gun which fell out of his grip. The accused managed to pick up the gun before he ran away with it.

He later returned and is said to have gone for the deceased whom he allegedly stabbed numerous times with a sharp object suspected to be a knife. He was said to also have stabbed a 10-year-old boy before another participant stopped him.

After this, the accused went into his room and continued playing music before he again left the place.

Police and Emergency Management Services arrived to take the injured victim and boy for treatment at the Alexandra Clinic where she was certified dead on arrival. The accused was arrested in Tembisa the following day and found in possession of an unlicensed gun, but the knife was not found.
