Online car buyer conned of R15 000

ALEXANDRA – Duped online car buyer ends up in open field.

Alex police are investigating a suspect for alleged theft under false pretenses from a Tsutsumani resident.

The incident happened in the morning on 28 October this year. Police spokesperson, Captain Allie Kodisang said the complainant deposited R5 000 into the bank account of the suspect, purportedly for the purchase of a motor vehicle through an online portal. The money was the final payment in addition to R10 000 which had already been paid by bank deposit to the suspect for the vehicle, a Toyota Conquest.

The complainant contacted the seller identified as Devendram Subramoney by phone after making the deposit and the seller gave him an address of a farm in Ermelo where he could collect the motor vehicle. The complainant drove to the address and, on arrival, found it to be an open field with nothing on it.

When he called, the seller’s cellphone was on voicemail and he has not been reachable since.
