Trapped by his new age music

JOBURG – Local trap music maker talks about his unique sound.

Trap and soul have come together in the South African music industry.

Trap music (a genre of music derived from American hip-hop) is not a genre common in South Africa, but Auckland Park’s new resident, Jolondy, is bringing it to the country in his own way.

Talking about his start in the industry he said, “I started performing in 2010 in Mpumalanga and at that point, I was in a group called Nation Fresh, but because we were individuals and had different interests we decided to dissolve the group and go our different ways. I started performing [alone] then because I was waiting for the right time and the right opportunity to showcase my talent.

“Music is my passion, I find solace in music and I get to have a conversation with God when I’m singing or writing music. In a nutshell, music is spiritual for me.”

Finding that music was his passion, he decided to do what he loves in his own way and hopes the public will love it too.

“The genre of music that I do is trap and soul and it’s a different type of soul music as it also encompasses elements of the now popular trap hip-hop music.

“I’m working on my upcoming EP, as well as my features. I’m almost ready to dish up my perfect songs to the public. “My kids, my musical journey and the struggles I’ve overcome are my inspiration,” he said.

Next year Jolondy is set on connecting with people.

“I believe that I’m going to change the game and 2017 is the year. My music talks to the broken souls. It breaks the boundaries regardless of age, colour and race. Be sure to check my new music soon.”
