Police on the hunt for taxi wheel cap thieves

ALEXANDRA – An off-duty taxi driver was left stranded when three men stole his car keys and the vehicle's wheel caps.

Three men are wanted by Alex police for allegedly stealing hubcaps from a Toyota Avanza taxi.

The incident happened at about 8pm on 16 September on 13th Avenue in Alex in the presence of the vehicle’s 23-year-old driver who had parked the vehicle alongside the road.

Spokesperson for Alex Police Station, Captain Allie Kodisang, said the suspects approached the driver and asked him to take one of them to Vincent Tshabalala Road.

When the driver told the suspects that he had finished work for the day, one of the suspects allegedly produced a firearm, pointed it at the driver’s head and ordered him to keep quiet or he would shoot him.

The men allegedly removed the hubcaps and stole the victim’s car keys before boarding a Toyota Quantum taxi which arrived on the scene.

The investigation continues.
