Police investigate migrant trader’s robbery

ALEXANDRA – Police investigate migrant trader's robbery in taxi.

A male migrant shop owner reported a case of robbery with the Alex police in which his asylum documents, personal and business items valued at R3 500 were allegedly taken.

The victim reported being robbed at about 10.30pm on 12 September while he was a passenger in an Avanza taxi going to his 4th Avenue shop. Alex police spokesperson Captain Allie Kodisang said the complainant was robbed of three cartons of cigarettes, airtime vouchers, a cellphone and asylum papers.

This was after the taxi driver called someone on his cellphone. The victim allegedly overheard the driver asking the other person of his whereabouts. Shortly after that, the driver stopped at a gate and the vehicle was approached by two men, one with a gun. After talking to the driver, the gunman pointed the gun at the victim and demanded money.

The two men forced him out of the taxi, and searched his trouser pockets and took everything he had. The taxi driver drove off. The victim suspects the driver of conspiracy in the robbery. Police are investigating.
