Alex women objects of rape

ALEXANDRA – Alex women, girls vulnerable to rape.

Women and girls’ vulnerability to rape reared its ugly head when numerous cases were reported at the Alexandra Police Station for the week ending 16 October.

Police spokesperson Captain Allie Kodisang said police were investigating the alleged rape of a nine-year-old schoolgirl by two known 13-year-old boys. The incident happened at one of the boy’s homes in Ext 7. The victim was watching television with the suspects when one of them closed and locked the door before the two undressed her forcibly and took turns in raping her. Afterwards, one of the suspects opened the door enabling her to leave.

Kodisang said the police were also investigating the alleged sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl of 10th Avenue by an unknown man. The child was walking to her father’s home when she was dragged by the suspect into a passage on 11th Avenue. The suspect allegedly violated the girl with his fingers. The victim was assisted by relatives to report the crime.

A woman reported to the Alexandra police, an alleged rape by a known suspect which occurred at about 5.15pm on 14 October. The suspect who worked near the victim’s workplace at the Alex Plaza went to her place of employment and asked her to join him and some friends at a braai after work. When she refused saying that she wasn’t dating him, he asked her to think about the invitation.

She later went to his workplace and he made her wait in the kitchen. He came back and when she still refused his invitation, he pushed her to a secluded spot and told her not to scream or he would beat her.

He then pulled up her skirt and rapd her without a condom. She reported the incident to the suspect’s manager before being advised to report it at the Alexandra Police Station.
