Greg Maqoma gushes about his new show

JOBURG – Vuyani Dance Theatre is excited for the opening of Joys of Sharing.

A collaboration of epic proportions is about to take place and it’s something to be excited about.

The Vuyani Dance Theatre is in the process of preparing one of its most exciting shows, Joys of Sharing, filled with music, dance and improvised pieces. The theatre will work with Grammy Award-winning flautist, Wouter Kellerman, and legendary local vocalist, Simphiwe Dana.

Gregory Maqoma, founder of the theatre, spoke about his latest collaboration to City Buzz.

“It’s an incredible opportunity to get to work with them. I have worked with Simphiwe before and our work has been receiving international recognition. Now we get to work with Wouter. I’ve been dreaming of working with someone like him who uses the flute in different layers to give his sounds a different taste, texture and colour.”

Maqoma gushed about the theatre’s numerous commitments for the remainder of the year, showing their productions on a number of stages worldwide.

“We’re doing good at the moment. Our calendar for the next few months is full, so we get to perform and make our contribution to the artists’ landscape and build the arts and culture community in Africa.”

Not convinced that it is just the dancers who are excited about working with the great musical talents on the project, he shared some insights on why the musicians should be ecstatic to work with the dancers as well.

“It’s a great experience for the dancers because we listen to their CDs when we perform, and now they have the chance to work with and interact with these great musicians. Not only is it a great opportunity for the dancers, but for the musicians to get to work with such talented performers.”
