Man on rape charge of disabled child

ALEXANDRA - Man in custody for alleged rape of disabled child.

A man has been remanded in custody awaiting further investigation and a court appearance on a charge of the rape of a 13-year-old girl who attends a school for the mentally disabled.

Spokesperson for Alex Police Station, Captain Allie Kodisang said the suspect allegedly lured the victim of 4th Street in Marlboro, to his home in Eastbank Ext 9 on 14 September. When the victim failed to arrive at home at 4pm on the day, the victim’s mother didn’t report her as missing with the police but instead went looking for her without success.

On 18 September, the mother, with some neighbours and relatives, met a girl at a park who, after being shown a picture of the missing daughter, told the group where they could find her. They found the young girl outside a tuck shop near the suspect’s home.

The victim led them to the suspect’s home where she alleged that he had repeatedly raped her and kept her locked in a room.

The group assaulted the suspect before he was taken away by the police.
