Dad awaits rape trial of 9 year old daughter

ALEXANDRA - Dad detained for multiple rape of 9 year old daughter

A father was remanded in custody by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping his nine-year-old daughter last year.

Sentencing was reserved for 22 September.

The 39-year-old accused was arrested in February this year for the rapes which occurred in May and August at their 6th Avenue home in Alex.

The child, who was attending a local primary school, is now at a place of safety in Soweto. The child, who had bottled up the trauma of the abuse for months, informed her stepsister in January. The sister, in turn, informed her own mother, who wasn’t married to the accused, and she reported the rape to the police.

At the time, the child’s own mother was said to be hospitalised and later moved to her Eastern Cape Province home, leaving the child with the accused.

He allegedly first raped her on 10 May, after calling her to his bedroom when she was cooking dinner. The accused allegedly then told her to undress so that he could play with her while teaching her about sex. This, he allegedly said was so she could avoid making the same mistake as her stepsister who fell pregnant at an early age. The accused is said to have promised to give the child R50, which she refused.

The accused then allegedly undressed her by force before raping her with a condom. The little girl said he had raped another three times in August.

Case continues.
