Q&A with radio presenter, Relebogile Mabotja

JOBURG – Relebogile Mabotja talks about her life in the world of entertainment.

With the right voice, great talent and passion for her craft – this is someone who is set to conquer the entertainment industry.

Relebogile Mabotja is the voice we know on Radio 702, but her career began in 2004 as a singer. Since then, she has worn a number of caps and played different roles on South African television – but she’s not done yet.

City Buzz managed to secure a Q&A with the all-round entertainer, and this is what she had to say:

Q. Singing, acting, producing, presenting – you’ve done it all. What are you still looking to pursue in your professional career?

A. I have so much more to do. I want to produce and make many more shows and make more music, but mostly I want to pursue roles that can assist in the transformation of women in positions of ownership and leadership in the media and entertainment industry.

Q. Being that it’s a radio show of a serious nature, how did you adapt for Radio 702?

A. I honestly think I didn’t need to adapt much but just be myself. I will read serious subjects or take on subjects that are pressing and give my thoughts and opinions. Mostly, though, I am a mediator. I am there to provide a platform for listeners to engage and possibly give a different perspective.

Q. What are you working on at the moment?

A. I am still producing television, like Afro Cafe and have a great new project I can’t wait to tell people about. It’s new and different. I am still growing my business and looking to do more CSI [Corporate Social Investment] work in my name.

Q. What’s been the biggest challenge of your career?

A. It definitely has to be staying true to myself and still being hireable. It’s been a challenge and a blessing too.

Q. Would you recommend people getting into the entertainment industry?

A. If it is their passion, purpose and their calling, then by all means, yes. If one is driven by the fame and the money alone, they will be easily let down. It is tough on many levels and requires something beyond talent and gifts to thrive and succeed in. Though tough, it is extremely fulfilling.
