Maps Maponyane styles Investec’s #Reserved4Me winner

JOHANNESBURG - One lucky winner was awarded a one-on-one style session with Maps Maponyane thanks to Investec Private Banking.

AFTER four months, 137 000 views and 6 000 entries, Investec recently announced the winner of its #Reserved4Me competition – 29-year-old process engineer, Tebogo Rammutla.

Aimed at young professionals, the #Reserved4Me video introduced Investec Private Banking to this niche market. Viewers had to find a hidden link, an Investec zebra, in the video to enter the competition for an opportunity to win R50 000 and a personal styling experience with Masego ‘Maps’ Maponyane.

As Investec Private Banking’s brand ambassador, media personality and entrepreneur, Maps is well-known for his sophisticated, suave style as he effortlessly mixes classic fashion pieces with modern, trendy items.

He makes every ensemble, from the office to the red carpet, a true reflection of his personal brand, so Rammutla was in very skilled hands as Maps guided him through his very own style experience.

“I travel a lot for work all over Africa. Most of the time I live out of my suitcase,” Rammutla commented.

“The styling session with Maps taught me to invest in quality, timeless and versatile pieces. My advice to other young professionals would be to take pride in yourself because you are your own brand!”

Not everyone is lucky enough to have Maps as their personal stylist, so here are his top five style tips for men and women:

Women

  • Don’t always look at what’s trendy. Find clothes that flatter your body type
  • Your clothes should not be too tight or oversized. They should emphasise your best features and draw attention for all the right reasons
  • Know the colours and tones that work with your skin and hair colour. Ideally, your outfit should not have more than four colours
  • Kitten heels don’t do much for your legs or posture and could be quite ageing – rather avoid them
  • Have fun with make-up and accessories, but don’t overdo it. Less really is more.

Men

  • Own three basic, quality suits – in black, navy and grey
  • Buy classic and timeless pieces. It’s always easier to layer with good basics
  • Buy multi-purpose clothes that can be used in any scenario – smart, casual and corporate. Versatility is key
  • You can never have enough white collared shirts. Dress for the occasion, so for example pair your white shirt with a great pair of cufflinks or a fashionable tie
  • A suit is all about the fit, so ask around and find a great tailor that can make your suit fit perfectly.
