Outgoing councillor Ngwenya keen to share information

ALEX - Outgoing councillor Ngwenya commits to share information with successor.

Outgoing Ward 105 ANC councillor, Joyce Ngwenya, joined many local residents who queued to cast their votes in the 2016 Municipal Elections at KwaBhekilanga Secondary School.

Ngwenya was not nominated again for the position of Ward 105 councillor, but bowed out gracefully saying that her role in the ward was all about delivering service to the people.

“I wish who ever wins the best of luck and for them to summon all energies to serving the people and to listen to them and understand their needs. The position is for serving the people and not for you,” Ngwenya emphasised.

In this regards, the outgoing councillor committed to share her experiences and information with the incoming councillor in the interest of continuity and the community.

Ngwenya recounted her challenges she said were overshadowed by successes which needed to be consolidated with continuity on what was not achieved and what remains to be done in the ward and township.

“The successes include the construction of thousands of houses, halls, stadium, swimming pools, parks, schools, bridges and a new mall under construction.”
Ngwenya said the challenges were a result of the delay by bureaucracy in allocating completed houses in particular the Bohlabela Phase 2 Flats which remained unoccupied for almost two years resulting in protests and accusations of incompetency on her part.

“Another more serious challenge is the delayed issuing of title deeds to the elderly who should see their housing rights affirmed while still alive.”
Ngwenya urged the incoming councillor to consider prioritising the establishment of a mobile police station to deal with escalating crime, to install lights at public spaces as a crime deterrent and to escalate all aspects of service delivery in general.
