Morningside courier van robber awaits trial

ALEXANDRA – Suspected robber of goods from a courier company van in Morningside awaits trial.

A 25-year-old man from Soweto was remanded in custody by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for alleged armed robbery.

He will reappear in court on 13 June for a bail application.

The suspect, who was with someone police were looking for, was alleged to have robbed a Ram Courier company van of parcels mid-morning on 25 May at Morningview Shopping Centre, Morningside. The suspects allegedly robbed the van’s crew at gunpoint while they were unloading parcels. They forced them to hand over the vehicle’s keys and forcibly locked them inside the van before taking six boxes of unknown contents and driving off in a VW Golf 5.

The getaway vehicle was traced and found to belong to the suspect who was arrested. He claimed the vehicle was being used by someone at the time it was linked to the robbery.

The case continues.
