Victim dead, suspect unconscious after robbery

ALEXANDRA - Victim knocks murder accused unconscious before dying of stab wounds.

An Alex man was remanded in custody on a murder and robbery charge by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court pending further investigation. The accomplice is still at large.

This after two men stole a cellphone and stabbed their victim at midnight on 28 May.

The accused and an accomplice allegedly robbed the victim of his cellphone before stabbing him in the chest outside a Shell petrol station, resulting in the victim dying on the scene. The deceased had been waiting for a friend who was drawing money from an ATM machine.

Two suspects are believed to have followed the deceased and his friend on foot from Pan Africa Mall where the ATM machines were not working. They pounced on the deceased who seemingly fought back before being stabbed. The victim had knocked out the accused, who remained unconscious until police arrived and arrested him. However, his accomplice escaped.

When the friend came back after drawing money, he found the deceased writhing in a pool of blood before he died.

In the process, another man was said to have arrived at the scene with stab wounds, suspected to have been inflicted by the escaping suspect.

The injured man and the accused (after gaining consciousness) were taken for treatment at Alex Clinic, with the accused under police guard, before he was detained. The deceased was taken to the government mortuary.

The case continues.
