Alex Wolves in second victory

JOBURG – Alex Wolves had a wonderful game in the President League, though there was some disappointment too.

Alex Wolves’ second rugby team claimed a second win in the President League by beating Southern Knights 22–19 at the President High School grounds in Ridge Way in Alberton.

Both teams showed dedication and hunger for points from the first whistle. It was the Southern Knights who were awarded their first line-out and secured a good ball to go over for the first try of the game which was not converted.

Three minutes later, the Wolves surprised the Knights by taking the lead with a converted try. But the Knights hit back with two converted tries to lead 19–12 at the break.

The Wolves turned things around in the second half and scored two more tries to clinch the match at 22–19.

Meanwhile, Wolves’ senior team lost their game against the Knights, 12–15.

Wolves coach Ellias Mpengu said both his teams had played well despite the loss of the first team. “The boys tried their best but what killed us in the senior team was the fact that we were short of our usual players as most of them were at work.”

Lourens Oor, Southern Knights coach, admitted that the games were not easy. “My team was struggling with ball handling and they failed to communicate on the field,” he said.

“I believe, had they communicated, they could have done better.”
