Ashlinn Gray releases new single
JOBURG - Local singer, Ashlinn Gray has released her latest single, Chex Ballet, which is about the games people play with each other when it comes to love.
The voice that comes out of this young woman is absolutely astonishing and fans of her music will fall head over heels for her latest track.
Gray explained the inspiration behind the hauntingly beautiful song. “I see that far too often people play games when it comes to love and I wanted to try and find a way of comparing it to the board games we play, or make-believe games children play. Chex Ballet is about the fact that when these games are played, people might get hurt. Everyone deserves genuine love and not to have their emotions messed around with.
“Chex is checkmate in chess. These games always end in checkmate and it’s hidden by the movement of ballet. I think ballet is deceptively easy, just like the games. Therefore, everyone must escape the Chex Ballet before it is too late.”

It’s definitely a subject many people can relate to and Gray’s lyrics are thought-provoking and stirring when accompanied by her powerful voice.
The new single follows her previous hits Battleships and Risking It All. This time, she teamed up with producer, Marius Brouwer, and leaned towards a more pop-inspired tune.

“I battled a bit with the metaphors and trying to simplify them. Not everyone sees the picture in your head, so you need to find a way of getting the idea across that is relatable. This song, in particular, was challenging in that regard,” explained Gray, when talking about her struggles with the song.
