Support Choc on Nelson Mandela Day

ORANGE GROVE - If you have something to give on Nelson Mandela Day, the Childhood Cancer Foundation's (Choc) charity shop may be the place to offer your services. The foundation opened its first charity shop in October last year.

“We are very excited about our new venture as this will help us to become self-sustainable,” said the shop’s operations manager Christine Warner. “We need good quality donations to make this work and we know that every home and business has goods they no longer need or use.”

Warner said the shop was in search of public donations. “People can become donors for our shop by donating good quality goods – not money so that we can use them to raise funds for Choc,” she added.

The shop requires the following:

  • clothing
  • books
  • toys
  • bric-a-brac
  • kitchen goods

The foundation also offers corporate workshops which explain the need for the work that they do, and they collect from companies too. “Childhood cancer and life threatening blood disorders are illnesses which affect not only the child but also the whole family. Choc’s objective is to contribute to the wellbeing of these children and their parents and families whilst at the same time focusing on uplifting the level of care at government hospitals through the supply of much needed equipment, training and so forth. It is only with the support of the community that we can achieve its goals.”

Donations can be dropped off at the Choc Charity Shop, corner of 11th Street and Louis Botha Avenue, Orange Grove.
