Roommate bust for rape

ALEXANDRA - A 37-year-old woman laid a charge of rape against her boyfriend's roommate.

A 37-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her boyfriend’s roommate while she was asleep in her lover’s bed.

Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the victim had arrived at her boyfriend’s place at 11pm, knocked on the door and the roommate opened. When she noticed her boyfriend was not there, she went straight to his bed and slept in the hope he would come home.

Late into the night, she felt someone undress her and believed it was her boyfriend and she responded to the caressing. She had sex with this stranger, still under the impression that it was her boyfriend.

When she woke up in the morning, she noticed the boyfriend was nowhere and there was no sign of him having arrived that night. She then decided to call him and he confirmed that he was on duty all night and never came home.

She then asked him to come so she could explain an ‘anomaly’ that happened the previous night. When the boyfriend arrived she narrated the story of what happened and that she was a bit drunk and had sex with someone, believing it was him.

They then confronted the roommate, who allegedly admitted to the rape and said it was a mistake. The couple then asked the roommate to accompany them to the police station where a case of rape was opened and the mate was arrested.

Maphakela said the roommate would appear in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court soon to face a rape charge.
