New Miss SA crown unveiled ahead of pageant

JOBURG – The Miss South Africa 2016 crown was recently unveiled in Sandton City a few weeks ahead of the pageant.

The crown, named Enhle, was designed by Jack Friedman Jewellers. The name, which means ‘beautiful one’ in isiZulu, was chosen through a social media competition which attracted a number of entries.

Howard Friedman, owner of Jack Friedman Jewellers and designer of the crown, spoke of the materials used which included sugilite, amethyst and white quartz crystals and explained the reason behind the selection.

“We chose the materials used in Enhle to be symbolic of Miss South Africa’s reign. Sugilite is believed to have protective and healing properties while amethyst is a stone that works on the emotional, physical and spiritual planes to provide calm, balance, patience and peace; and white quartz crystals reflect the white spiritual light,” he said.

Adding to this was Suzette van der Merwe, managing executive of the Cell C Foundation, who explained that the crown would also include all the engraved names of previous Miss South Africa title holders, ensuring that the history of Miss South Africa over the decades is carried on.

The glittery unveiling took place at Jack Friedman Jewellers while the highly-anticipated pageant finale is scheduled to take place on 19 March from 5pm to7pm at Carnival City.
