Messengers of Hope make home visits in Alex

ALEXANDRA - One of the central component of the Rays of Hope's Child-Headed Households (CHH) project is the home visits to Alex households that are conducted on a regular basis.

One of the central components of the Rays of Hope’s Child-Headed Households (CHH) project is regular home visits to Alex residences.

“Each member of the project’s team is assigned a family who they look after and build a relationship with, and this includes visiting the children at home twice a month, and more frequently if deemed necessary,” said Andrea Dienst of Rays of Hope.

According to Dienst, team members are said to often walk long distances to reach their designated families in Alex and the families are always thrilled to have their visitors – they delight in the opportunity to share their joys, their problems and details of their lives with a patient listener.

Dienst said it was often evident that after the team member had listened, asked questions, prayed and provided encouragement and advice, the families feel less burdened and more hopeful.

These home visits help the CHH team gather much-needed information regarding the needs of children such as the children’s ages, shoe sizes, when they last bought shoes, which school they attend, their grades, how they are coping in class, what time they go to sleep, which room they sleep in, allergies or medication they are taking and what they dream of becoming one day.

Dienst said the teams genuinely care for each and every person in this project, as in CHH no one is just a number.
