‘Once an ANC always an ANC’

ALEXANDRA - So many people are perplexed and often wonder why the ANC is so popular and its popularity seems to wane by a thin margin and only to bounce back.

The ANC is like a church, and if you die you always look forward to being buried by your comrades or congregation, to speak the religious language. It is these reasons why most of us fell head over heels in love with the ANC, and in typical teenage fashion, eloped with it to the wilderness of exile in pursuit of the promises of a better life for all and a government of the people by people.

So many people are perplexed and often wonder why the ANC is so popular, and that its popularity sometimes seems to wane by a thin margin, only to bounce back. Well, let me explain to you why the oldest political organisation on the continent continues to grow from year to year and from strength to strength while the rest of Africa’s political parties dwindle into thin air after a few years of existence.

One element that makes this organisation so popular is its courtship policies which are well defined and well thought out, just like when you have to approach a potential lover in a romantic affair.

You always try to be at your best, not just in material appearance but also the way you present yourself, choosing your words very carefully and making a lasting impression that leaves your romantic target perplexed and in no doubt that you’re the man.

The ANC is the man, and this is the political organisation which is wooing us. This is all because their policies are so well crafted and well thought out and they appeal to everybody across the board, rich or poor, woman or man, disabled or abled and teenager or adult.

The ANC doesn’t doesn’t just mumble and string meaningless sentences together. Their policies are appealing and attractive to the potential target of a courtship and leave her in no doubt at all. Their policies take you through the journey of a flawless garden path and, most importantly, leave you no option but to accept their advances.

The second element is the mere fact that South Africans also treat their political parties in the same vein as their football clubs. Lose or win it’s ‘Once a Pirates always a Pirate’ or ‘Khosi for life’.

Whether or not the ANC fumbles in its deliverables promised in that journey along the garden path, it does not matter at all to many of us. What matters is that ‘I was born into this organisation and I will die in this organisation’.

And that the ANC doesn’t listen to its people when it comes to e-tolls, service delivery, provident fund amendments, labour brokers, #RhodesMustFall, #FeesMustFall, Nkandla or #ZumaMustFall is an issue for another day.
