Lend a helping hand this Christmas

JOBURG - As the year draws to an end and plans are made for the festive season, it is important to ensure that the spirit of giving is not lost. While enjoying the festive season, residents can also play their part in making a difference in the lives of others.

  • One organisation in need of assistance is Impilo Child Protection Services and Adoption Services, which requests volunteers and donations during December. The Fairvale-based organisation is requesting donations of baby formula Nan1 and Nan2, wet wipes and nappies from members of the public. Residents can also contribute towards the children’s meals.

Impilo has no planned activities during the festive season due to lack of availability of volunteers and staff members but will have regular Christmas Day celebrations with the children.

  • Pet-lovers looking to give back during December can donate their time or building supplies to Four Paws which is based in Fourways. The organisation, dealing with abandoned pets, also needs assistance to help build new facilities for their pets and donations of food supplies.

The organisation also welcomes volunteers until 18 December, when it closes, but monetary donations are welcome throughout December.

  • Closer to home, Rays of Hope needs assistance and donations this December. The organisation, based in Hurlingham, will be packing food hampers for child-headed households in Alexandra and requires donations of non-perishable goods before Christmas. Donations can be dropped off at the Rosebank Union Church and addressed to Rays of Hope.

The organisation has also planned a variety of activities for the children, including a visit to the Bryanston Country Club, but welcomes volunteers to assist at any point during the festive season. Monetary donations are also welcome.

Residents are also welcome to make monetary donations or help out at the organisation during December.
