Rays of Hope, a non-profit organisation that focuses on uplifting the community of Alexandra, recently completed its sixth annual Cycle Tour of Hope, and raised more than R1 million for its projects in the township.

The cycle tour took place from 23 to 25 October and the fundraiser was once again a resounding success for its beneficiary projects in Alexandra, near Sandton in Johannesburg.

The event started with 34 riders cycling from Clarens in the Free State to Johannesburg in Gauteng, covering a total of 365 km over a three-day period. The route takes the cyclists through breathtaking landscapes, making the trip both scenic and enjoyable.

The tour encourages riders to participate in efforts to raise funds through sponsorships and donations. The funds raised aided the nine Rays of Hope projects that impact over 1 000 people in Alexandra.

Rays of Hope focuses on three key areas in the community including health care, training, development and education, and orphans and vulnerable children. “We’re so grateful to everyone who donated their time and money to the Cycle Tour of Hope this year,” said Jennifer Adams, CEO of

Rays of Hope. “The funds will enable us to continue to make a lasting difference to those less fortunate.”

Julie Peters, the marketing manager of Rays of Hope enthused, “Many businesses contribute to making this tour the success that it is. A special thanks to our key sponsor, the Super Group, and each cyclist who helped us exceed our target of R1 million net this year, up from R660 000 last year.”

This year, two development cyclists from Alex participated, as usual, and were given a bike, gear and training, in order to complete the three-day event.

David Kinsey, who participated in this year’s tour said, “I was extremely impressed with the level of organisation around the cycle ride, and I had an extremely enjoyable three days with wonderful people. Clearly, Rays of Hope is doing great work for Alex.”
