3 men in custody for hijacking

ALEXANDRA - Three Alex men were remanded in custody by the Alexandra Magistrate Court for alleged vehicle hijacking.

Three Alex men were remanded in custody by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for vehicle hijacking.

They will reappear on 22 November after further investigations are concluded.

The court heard that at about 10am on 10 October, the men allegedly hijacked a Toyota Corolla from a male victim who was stopped at a red robot in Wendywood.

Two of them are said to have opened the vehicle’s passenger door and pointed guns at the victim. The third went to the driver’s side and pulled the man out of the car before the three got in and drove off. The victim signalled other motorists for assistance, and a female motorist who saw the incident stopped.

As they were driving to report it at Sandton Police Station, they came across a police patrol vehicle. The officers followed the hijacked car and managed to arrest two of the men as they were travelling towards Alexandra.

A police radio communication alerted other officers on patrol about the third wanted suspect. He was arrested after he was seen nearby running to board a taxi. The victim identified him as the third suspect.

The vehicle was returned to the owner, and the guns were recovered and found to be toy guns.
