ALEXANDRA - An 18 year old boy was sentenced by the Alexandra Magistrate Court to three years after pleading guilty to a case of housebreaking and robbery.

An 18-year-old boy was sentenced to three years in jail after pleading guilty to a case of housebreaking and robbery at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that on 18 May, Marcus Monyai broke into Patrick Mokoena’s shack by removing a corrugated iron sheet which was part of the wall after Mokoena had left for work at 5am. He was seen by a witness entering Mokoena’s property on 11 Avenue and exiting with clothes and a DVD player to the value of R1 730. The witness is said to have asked Monyai what he was doing and he said he had been sent to do so by someone whom he didn’t identify.

The witness informed Mokoena, who reported the matter to the police after work, resulting in Monyai’s arrest the following day.
