Region E youth dialogue session

ALEXANDRA - The City of Johannesburg's Region E will host a youth dialogue to address some of the key challenges facing the youth today.

The City of Johannesburg’s Region E will host a youth dialogue to address some of the key challenges facing youth today.

The youth indaba will be held on 18 September at the Klipfontein View Multipurpose Centre and will seek to address, among other issues, the ever-increasing usage of illegal drugs, unemployment, teenage pregnancy and crime.

In an attempt to address these social ills, the City of Johannesburg Region E had resolved to start youth dialogues and deliberations towards the collective development of a regional youth programme.

The Region E youth will gather at the venue to talk about issues that affect them directly and how these can be addressed. The youth from both Alexandra and Klipfontein have shown a great level of enthusiasm and commitment to participating in this dialogue.

A statement from the City said in recent months, the City of Johannesburg’s Region E had made significant strides in improving the environment for youth empowerment; just a few weeks ago the region launched the Youth Advisory Centre.

The primary purpose is to provide overall leadership on youth employment and development by providing career advice and placement services and a programme of internship and learnership in partnership with the private sector, as well as offering structured support to youth to enable them to play a positive and respected role in society with an emphasis on social cohesion.

The statement said the youth development initiatives created by Region E were aimed at improving the living standards of young people in the communities of Alexandra and Klipfointein through entrepreneurial, educational, skills training and support programmes.

Region E has formed collaborative partnerships with the private sector and other government departments to give ongoing support with regards to skills training.

“The region will continue to identify new partners to help deal with challenges faced by the youth,” the statement said. The dialogue session will commence at 10am until 4pm and transport will be provided at the following pick-up points:

  • River Park Library at 7.30am
  • San Kopano Hall at 8am
  • Alexandra Multipurpose People’s Centre at 8:30am.
