The EFF leader said his party would fight for domestic workers to earn a monthly minimum wage of R4 500, and make sure workers were entitled to benefits such as medical aid and the Unemployment Insurance Fund.

The current minimum wage for domestic workers in major metropolitan areas is R2 065 and R1 812 in other areas.

Domestic workers were given the floor to raise their issues which ranged from receiving bad treatment from employers, low salaries, and lack of basic services such as water and electricity where they stay. Some workers even burst into tears as they raised the challenges they faced as domestic workers.

Malema promised to take the concerns of the workers and present them in parliament. “We want the whole world to hear you speaking for yourselves, because when we speak sometimes they will say we are exaggerating things,” said Malema.

Malema was accompanied by the party’s leadership of national chairperson, Dali Mpofu, vice-president, Floyd Shivambu and national spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi among others.
