Get knitting for Mandela Day

SOWETO – All of you who are looking for a creative way to give back this Mandela Day can join the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day knitwits as they host a knit-a-thon on 18 July.

It’s happening at the Soweto Campus of the University of Johannesburg from 9am to 3pm.

Last week, the knitwits took over the streets of Johannesburg by tying a number of handmade scarves to trees and poles for members of the public to take to keep themselves warm.

This woolly initiative has taken the country by storm and continues to grow as people join the revolution. Now, the wonderful group will spend Mandela Day knitting up a storm and everyone’s invited! Whether you’re a knitting pro or just an amateur who wants to learn how to crochet or twine two needles together, the knitwits want you there.

All you’ve got to bring is a smile, your own wool, crochet hooks, knitting needles and a delish picnic.

This is also a chance to drop off scarves, squares or blankets that have already been made and are ready for donating.

Details: 011 482 3467.
