Moetlo was allegedly shot by Constable Ronnie Masie who was in turn shot dead by other officers who pursued him after the fatal shooting at Alexandra Police Station. This after he had allegedly shot dead his wife, Sowela Nkuna and her relatives, Stephina Semenya and Matthews Mabayi, who were in Moetlo’s office to report a case of domestic violence against Masie.

The police are investigating four murders and inquests relating to the shooting. It is said that at the time, Masie had been deployed at the Alex Magistrates’ Court as an orderly and was barred from possessing an official weapon.

Recalling Moetlo, his brother Patrick said the family had lost a sociable, caring and responsible unifier who was also passionate about his career.

“He dedicated 35 years of his life to security matters and was a role model for many at his home in Mokopane in Limpopo province, who emulated him by joining the police service.”

Moetlo is survived by his wife, five siblings, five children and grandchildren.
