Case of child neglect opened against mother

ALEXANDRA - A case of child neglect has been opened at the Alex Police Station against a mother of a one-and-half-year-old child.

This after the child was allegedly seen alone twice and awake at the mother’s house in the middle of the night.

Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Manare Ramotshela said the first time was allegedly on 3 April. Ramotshela explained that a female neighbour said she saw the child standing alone at her home’s front door. The neighbour is said to have also noticed the stove was on in the house. After an hour and allegedly still alone, the neighbour took the child into her own home.

When the mother came back and found the child with the neighbour, she allegedly insulted the woman before taking the child home.

Then again, on 1 May, the concerned neighbour’s father allegedly saw the same child lingering alone in the house in the middle of the night and called other neighbours before taking in the child.

When the mother returned home she allegedly went to the neighbour and took her child before insulting the neighbour again. This led to her being reported to the police who opened a case of child neglect after warning her.
