Traditional healer: This country needs to heal or it will be in ruins

ALEXANDRA - The crime and violence which has engulfed the country were long predicted by traditional healers, whose advice fell on deaf ears hence the barbarism and thuggery that characterised the country in the recent xenophobia attacks.

This was said by Sydney Mathebula an Alex traditional healer at a cleansing ceremony post the attacks which seem to flare up annually in different parts of the country. Most of the attacks are attributed to locals’ displeasure and anger against the employment of non-nationals.

Mathebula said traditional healers had advised on the need for continuous cleansing since the first democratic elections to appease the spirits, stop potential wars, spilling of blood and to ensure unity among citizens of different origins, cultures and colours.

He said if the nation’s leaders had heeded the call and in turn advised citizens to practice customs of co-existence, the crime and strife in communities would not be happening as residents would have learnt the value and essence of peace and harmony with anyone, irrespective of origin.

He added that as healers, they interacted and shared with colleagues in neighbouring countries who welcomed them with love, including the local citizens, unlike here where locals mistreated others of African origin.

Mathebula stressed that healers regard the crime, violence and strife as emanating from self-hate which has a negative psychological effect on citizens.

“It will require time to cure and heal… Everyone [needs to] heed traditional healers’ advice, stand up and speak in one voice against violence – or the country will be reduced to ruins.”
