He’s got the Keys to success

JOBURG - Mercedes Benz Fashion Week will set the scene for the release of Ryan Key's Summer/Spring 2015 collection.

It’s every fashion designer’s dream to make it to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and that’s exactly what South African designer Ryan Keys has done.

The 24-year-old Keys studied fashion at the Spero Villioti Elite Design Academy and spent his school holidays attending summer school through the prestigious Parsons School of Design in New York.

Officially launching his fashion line, Keys Fashion, in 2014 and finding inspiration in city landscapes, he explored materials and textures in his fashion.

He began by creating pieces that contrast the way he sees the harshness of urban living, with which he is constantly surrounded by.

Boasting a wide range of collections, his pieces reflect anything from embellished and ornamental to modern and minimal.

His ranges have been described by international publications as classy, elegant and daring.

His Summer/Spring 2015 range will showcase an interesting aesthetic which aims to expose the thin line between strength and vulnerability, dark and light, darkness and innocence.

This line between the two extremes is represented by the mixing of soft fabrics with rugged leather.

Keys Fashion’s designs, titled We Were Born Sick, challenge our notions of purity and depravity.

Presenting his collection on the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week runways, an important and rarely accomplished step in the fashion world, he has achieved great success in the short time since launching his line.
