Alex gymnasts honoured for ‘a job well done’

ALEXANDRA - Gymnasts of the Alexandra Trampoline Club have been honoured with Central Gauteng Colours for 'a job well done' in 2014.

Gymnasts of the Alexandra Trampoline Club have been honoured with Central Gauteng Colours for their outstanding achievements last year.

The colours were awarded by the Central Gauteng Gymnastics Association. Among those honoured were Offering Tlaka, who competed at the 2014 Trampoline World Championships in Florida, USA. The association named Tlaka as Gymnast of the Year 2014.

Six Alex gymnasts competed at the 2014 Indo Pacific Championships at Sun City in which Tlaka won a silver medal for EuroTrampoline and another silver for Double-Mini Trampoline. Tlaka’s teammates Michael Schmidt placed fifth overall at the championships, and Xolani Nxumalo and Sicelo Mabizela placed seventh overall.

Fifteen Alex gymnasts qualified to compete at the 2014 South African Gymnastics Games which were held in Cape Town. At this competition, Alex gymnasts won three gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

The club’s coach Hudson Nxumalo was honoured by being named Coach of the Year 2014 for Level 5 and Open Gymnasts.
