GADF meeting postponed

ALEXANDRA - A power cut forced the Greater Alex Development Forum [GADF] to postpone its 2nd general meetings for the year.

A power cut forced the Greater Alex Development Forum [GADF] to postpone its second and last general meetings for the year.

The meeting which was aborted last weekend was to review the outcome of work done during the year and to affirm plans for next year. It has been rescheduled for the last week of January next year on a date still to be announced. Forum chairperson Zwelibanzi Ndlovu said besides the power cut, attendance had also been low and attributed this to residents’ other commitments like funerals and shopping. “Usually around this time, people are winding down their business and are generally exhausted from the year’s workloads and others have lost interest in anything relating to meetings.”

At the next gathering, the secretariat will table for participants’ consideration the outcome of work of the forum clusters and ongoing and planned development projects. They include the Bus Rapid Transit system [BRT], the Heritage Centre, the recently reopened Eastbank Pool and the health summit’s plans on new and revamping of clinics. Also, they will touch on service delivery issues – community safety, education, SMMEs access to local economic opportunities, youth unemployment and contractual arrangements with local government on development projects.

The forum has 15 members in executive and local economic development, social services, infrastructure and services, monitoring and evaluation, governance and international relations clusters.
