Try some DIY this festive season
JOBURG - With South Africa narrowly dodging another recession, people are trying their best to cut back on unnecessary expenses and save some money for the dreary January and February months of next year, but that doesn't mean that Christmas should be dull.
In the spirit of saving money, but still having the most beautiful and festive Christmas, we have compiled a list of fun DIY Christmas decorations for you to make with your family.
Step 1. Cut out a circle of cardboard the size of the top of the glass and stick your favourite Christmas action figure on it.
Step 2. Place confetti in the glass.
Step 3. Glue the top of the glass to the cardboard with the action figure inside and viola!
Step 1. Paint a light bulb to look like a penguin.
Step 2. Tie a ribbon to the silver side of the light bulb and hang it on your tree.
Step 1. Place larger books in a circular formation at the bottom with the top edges touching each other.
Step 2. Continue to place the books on top of each other, with the next layer being placed on the gaps of the previous layer.
Step 3. Wrap books with Christmas lights.
Step 1. Cut out circular shapes from paper.
Step 2. Cut out shapes within those circles to make patterns.
Step 3. Hang them all from the ceiling using thin fishing wire.
Step 1. Bake star shaped cookies.
Step 2. Ice the bigger cookies first and place the smaller ones on top of them.
Step 3. Top the cookie tree with edible silver balls.
