‘Love Alex Festival’ postponed

ALEXANDRA - The Love Alex Festival which was supposed to be staged from 22 to 30 November has been postponed and will now take place on a date to be announced in April next year.

The ‘Love Alex Festival’ which was supposed to be staged from 22 to 30 November has been postponed and will now take place on a date to be announced in April next year.

The youth group behind the project, Creative Minds Movement, which is based at the Motsweding Centre in Wynberg on the outskirts of Alex, said after an intense meeting with sponsors and other stakeholders involved, it was decided to move the festival to April next year.

Spokesperson for the movement, Levi Ledwaba said a number of issues were taken into consideration in arriving at the decision to postpone the festival. One of them was the fact that the construction work being undertaken at the Alexandra Stadium, the venue of the festival, was still not complete and will take some time to finalise, Ledwaba said.

Other issues involved the ongoing paving of the pavements on the streets of Alex and the construction work around the arrival of the Rea Vaya bus service. “All these projects being undertaken would have a severe impact on the staging of a festival of this magnitude,” he added.

Ledwaba said they were still going to go ahead with other associate projects of the festival such as Creative Industry Indaba, which is scheduled to take place at Club Neh on 21 November and the Greater Alex Historic Seminar scheduled for 24 November at Sankopano, including the Pop Up Market Place on 6 December at Circle Park.

“We sincerely apologise to the community for any inconvenience caused and we are grateful to the continued support from the various sectors of the community and sponsors,” Ledwaba said.
