A man suspected to be an identity document fraudster was arrested in a routine police stop-and-search operation near the Marlboro Gautrain Station.

Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the police were doing a routine stop-and-search operation when they noticed a suspicious-looking man. They stop and searched him and found he had two identity documents, one from Mozambique and the other from South Africa, bearing two different names.

The suspect was questioned about this and he replied that the Mozambican ID was his own, but that he had picked up the South African one and he had removed the original picture and replaced it with his own.

He was arrested by the police and will appear soon in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on a charge of fraud.
