\A divorcee has found herself caught up in different battle in the middle of Alexandra’s housing woes.

The alleged victim exposed her plight at a recent public meeting of residents with the MMC for Housing, Bonakele Dan Bovu.

She said she was served with divorce papers in 2006 without appearing in any court and while staying at Bombani Shelter for Abused Women and Children. This reporter has viewed these divorce papers, which are unsigned by her.

This, after allegedly escaping from beatings by her then-husband at their home in Tsutsumani, which they had been living in since 1999.

She claimed they were married in community of property but the house was registered in her name.

By escaping for her own safety, she lost the household assets and the house.

She claims the worst was when she discovered that the house had been sold, or possibly given to other people, who now occupy it.

She said she stopped paying the bond repayments as she was uncertain if she would get back the house or her contribution to the joint estate. She claimed that the new occupants have threatened her with death if she pursued the matter.

She alleged her case was reported to the police without success and she presented documentary evidence to the MMC, with the hope that something would be done to help her.
