Morajane heaps praises on conquering Alex

ALEXANDRA - Secretary General of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association Mafika Morajane has heaped praises on the Alex X1 U19 squads of boys and girls for becoming the champions of Johannesburg.

Secretary general of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association, Mafika Morajane, has heaped praises on the Alex X1 U19 squads of boys and girls for becoming the champions of Johannesburg.

The Alex squads were invited to participate in the inter Local Football Associations (LFA) by South African Football Association Johannesburg Region in its annual tournament hosted by the Greater Mayfair Local Football Association at the Arthur Block Park Stadium on 28 September.

Nine LFAs participated in the tournament with two absentees, but the tournament went ahead as scheduled. Morajane said the boys had sweet revenge on Eldorado LFA in the final.

“Whenever we met with them [Eldos] they always knocked our boys out, but this time it was not to be, as they finished in a 1-1 draw,” Morajane said.

The teams then went into penalties with both teams missed three, handing Eldos yet another draw. They then proceeded into sudden death penalties which Alex Xl won 4-3.

“What a hell of a game it was,” Morajane said of the final before the sudden death.

“Eldos managed to score their equalising goal in the dying minutes of the game as our boys were already in a celebratory mood.”

Morajane paid tribute to Alex Xl goalkeeper, Gavin Philiso, for his heroics in stopping five penalty kicks from the Eldos team. He went on to slot in the winning sudden death penalty kick, sending the Alex squad into a frenzy.

“To our coaches, technical staff, players and LFA administration, it’s a job well done and I urge you all to keep up the good work to better this LFA,” Morajane said.
