Birds hope to fly past their opponents

ALEXANDRA - Bluebirds will be hoping to fly past their opponents and collect maximum points when they collide with Northwest University of the Vaal at the Three Square Sports Facility.

The second round game of the Sasol Women’s Football League will be played on the weekend at Bluebirds’ home ground at the Three Square sports facility.

After collecting maximum points in the first round match, Birds coach Malvin Khumalo said he was optimistic for a win in this game as he has his full squad available, except for red-carded keeper Asa Rabalao.

“Our reserve keeper, Sphesihle Madala, is now available hence I am saying we have a full squad in the absence of the number one Rabalao, who will be sitting out her first game of a two match ban as a result of the red card,” Khumalo said.

There are 21 games remaining in the league and Khumalo’s team has already played all the difficult fixtures. The team is ninth on the log with 24 points.

“If we can be consistent and win most of our remaining games, we shall exceed our top eight target in our maiden season in the league.”

He explained that a number of his players were involved in an Alex U19 squad game to be played over the same weekend.

“This is why we are not sure at this stage when the game will be played. If the squad plays on Saturday, then our match will go ahead on Sunday as planned, but if the Alex squad plays on Sunday, then our game moves to Saturday,” he said.
