The celebration of former president Nelson Mandela’s birth on 18 July attracted a flurry of activities in Alexandra with various companies descending on the township to play their part.

Among those who also came to Alex to honour Madiba’s legacy was the City of Johannesburg’s Metrobus, who visited the Khensani Daycare Centre “to bring joy to the little ones”. The staff of Metrobus delivered a stove, refrigerator and a TV set, including a supply of groceries.

They also decorated the play area of the centre, supervised the children playing in the area and also entertained them. Spokesperson for Metrobus Andre van Niekerk said 90 children were earlier in the day collected by bus from the centre and taken to the Milpark depot, where they were entertained with jumping castles, a braai and also given party packs on their way back.

Meanwhile, Kunene, Ramapala and Botha, better known KRB Law Firm from Sandton, visited the Alexandra Hospice and Rehabilitation Centre, where staff members, together with client Gidani-National Lottery, took part in various activities to refurbish the entire home.

The activities included painting the home, cleaning it, feeding the sick and assisting in many others daily routines that take place in the home. The law firm’s Nomsa Gumede said the firm was committed to serve ordinary citizens as demonstrated in their act of leaving their air-conditioned offices for the dusty and cold environments in Alexandra.
