New Alex school location to be revealed soon

ALEXANDRA - The establishment of a world class school in Alexandra is progressing well and co-founder Waahida Tolbert-Mbatha will soon announce its location in or around the township.

The establishment of a world-class school in Alexandra is progressing well and co-founder Waahida Tolbert-Mbatha will soon announce its location in or around the township.

“I will be signing the lease for the property, and once that is all sealed and done, I will call a press conference… to announce the location of Kgololo Academy. We shall initially rent the property with a view to finding a permanent place for the school in the long run,” she said in an interview with Alex News.

She said the school would open in phases, and the first intake when it opens its door in January next year will be two classes each of Grade R and pre-R.

“We are looking at taking 30 children in each of the Grade R classes and 20 for each of the pre-Grade R classes,” Tolbert-Mbatha said.

“Our teacher recruitment programme is also progressing well and we are interviewing potential teaching candidates already. We are looking for four teachers and some assistants, and applications for those teaching posts will close at the end of May.

“By end June we should have our full complement of teaching staff for the initial classes that will start the school. We are looking for candidates with a minimum of a teaching diploma in early chihood development and [they] should be fluent in both English and IsiZulu.”

Application forms for the pupil intake can be found at Sankopano Library, and members of the community are at liberty to pick them up, complete them and return them to the library for the founders of the school to collect.

Tolbert-Mbatha urged parents of would-be pupils at the school to attend some of the information sessions being held at the Sankopano Library. The next three session are set for 24 May, 31 May and 7 June, all starting at 11am until 12pm.

“The session will be a good platform for parents to get to know us as the founders of the school, and to understand what we are up to and the kind of education that we envisage for their children, and the educational standards we want to keep and achieve,” Tolbert-Mbatha said.

“I would urge all those who have an interest in enrolling their children at the school not to miss these information sessions. Our policy on pupil intake is not as strict and rigorous as we are with the recruitment of teaching staff.”
