This vibrant body of work is not just a collection of songs, it’s a contemporary narrative aimed at inspiring the youth of Alexandra and beyond, addressing the struggles faced in underprivileged communities while promoting a message of hope and resilience.

At just 23 years old, Prince Mercy has already made significant strides in the music industry. His journey began in 2019, at the age of 18, when he first dipped his toes into the world of music.

In early 2020, he collaborated with hip-hop artists Stan Fisher and Kaymon on the Egomaniacs EP under the group name: Third Ego. However, the artist soon decided to pursue a solo career, teaming up with creative partner Tiizo later that year.

With the release of Gomora Trap, Prince Mercy embodies the very essence of hard work and determination, themes he hopes resonate deeply with his audience.

“This mixtape is for everyone who has faced struggles, especially the youth in townships. I want them to understand that hard work and discipline can lead to a better life. I’m here to show them that they can rise above the challenges and be a good example for others,” he said.

Set against a backdrop of vibrant beats and contemporary sound, Prince Mercy said Gomora Trap reflects the realities of township life while simultaneously opining on essential values like focus and perseverance.

“The mixtape is described as the most anticipated mixtape in the hood and it seeks to provide a soundtrack for those seeking to navigate the hardships of daily life,” he said.

The mixtape’s launch comes on the heels of an eventful year for Prince Mercy, who has gained recognition through performances at various open mic shows, including The Masterclass Podcast, Dark City Sessions, and Up in the North.

His performances not only showcased his undeniable talent but also allowed him to share the stage with recognised industry artists at events like the inaugural Gomora Carnival.

Prince Mercy refers to his latest work as both a blessing and a calling. He emphasises the importance of using music as a tool for change.

“I want my music to inspire people, especially the youth. Too many of them resort to drugs, violence, or crime. I’m here to show them that there’s another way.”
