Sandton roars to life with Red Bull Showrun and SPAR Women’s Challenge highlights

A weekend of excitement unfolded in Johannesburg with the Red Bull Showrun dazzling Sandton and the SPAR Women’s Challenge attracting thousands of runners.

On sunday, Sandton saw the highly anticipated Red Bull Showrun take over its streets, offering an exhilarating display of Formula 1 power and precision. Former F1 driver David Coulthard electrified fans as he skillfully navigated the iconic Red Bull Racing F1 car in Johannesburg’s bustling financial hub.

Meanwhile, the SPAR Women’s Challenge lit up the roads across Northcliff and Rosebank. Glenrose Xaba clinched the Joburg leg title with a remarkable time of 00:32:48 minutes, followed closely by Ethiopian athletes Tadu Nare and Diniya Kedir Abaraya.

The event, attracting around 10 000 enthusiastic participants, showcased vibrant outfits and spirited cheers, creating an unforgettable atmosphere at Mark’s Park Sports Club in Emmarentia.

In addition to these events, the St John’s College Tutu Walk celebrated the life and contributions of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, further enriching the weekend’s festivities.
