Pile of rubbish proves not big enough to hide from the long arm of the law

You can run but you can never hide even behind a pile of rubbish, says the spokesperson of the Ekurhuleni Flying Squad Sergeant Ntombikayise Ngcobo.

An off-duty member of the Ekurhuleni Flying Squad in Germiston arrested one suspect in Alexandra and recovered an unlicensed firearm and ammunition found in his possession on September 29.
According to a preliminary report from the flying squad spokesperson Sergeant Ntombikayise Ngcobo, the off-duty flying squad member was with friends and family members at an 18th Avenue home in Alexandra when an unknown man stormed into the yard at about 15:00 and pointed a firearm at them.

The flying squad member managed to communicate through WhatsApp groups to call for backup and a good partnership with other law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime paid off as members of the Metro police responded, Ngcobo said.
On hearing the sirens of the Metro police cars, Ngcobo said the suspect fled the scene on foot and the flying squad member gave chase and was joined by a Metro police member and they found the suspect hiding behind a rubbish bin.

The suspect was arrested and an unlicensed firearm and ammunition were found in his possession. Ngcobo said no shots were fired at the 18th Avenue home and the scene of the arrest and the serial number of the firearm had been filed off.
Ngcobo praised the joint effort of the various law enforcement agencies which led to the apprehension of the suspect, saying this displayed how such partnerships could go a long way in fighting crime within communities.
“No rubbish bin can be big enough to hide a suspect from the long arm of the law,” Ngcobo added.
