Amaskills down the ‘Socca Dream’ of rivals

Amaskills United takes the three points after downing the ‘Socca Dream’ of its rivals in the ANLFA Promotional League match.

A brace by captain fantastic of Amaskills United Luyanda Shezi and another strike from the boot of his teammate Buhle Malinga were enough to drown the ‘Socca Dream’ of its rivals that go by the same name.

This was in the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association’s Promotional League match between Socca Dream FC and the second-placed Extension 10 side. Amaskills United grabbed all three points in the match played at the Alexandra Stadium on March 24.

The game was scheduled to kick off at 13:00 but kicked off 25 minutes late following an incident in which two police officers from the station accompanied by a young woman arrived at the stadium and whisked away one of the assistant referees.

When the match finally kicked off, Socca Dream keeper Michael ‘Khune’ Mncube was called upon to make an early brilliant save from a corner kick that was destined for the goal but had to punch the ball back into play. Luckily, it landed at the feet of his defenders who hastily cleared it away.

Amaskills’ menacing Sinqobile Simamane missed registering his name and that of his team first on the scoreboard when he missed what would have been a scoring opener when he thundered his acute angle strike inches wide of the upright.

Not long after Simamane’s near strike, Socca Dream skipper Lesedi Manyike grabbed the opportunity when it availed itself and registered his name and that of his team first on the scoreboard.

So simple was the strike that it left Amaskills keeper Xolani Mthembu bamboozled and not knowing whether to dive or not. Before the Socca Dream celebration could die down, Amaskills skipper Shezi dribbled past several defenders including an advancing keeper to equalise.

Before the halftime break, Moagi Bokaba of Socca Dream missed a glorious opportunity to put his team back in the lead while Manyike also missed an opportunity for his brace.

On resumption of the game, Amaskills keeper Mthembu was lucky to escape with a yellow when he kicked Manyike after the pair collided on the ball. Amaskills was awarded a penalty but the Socca Dream keeper was up to the task and saved it.
