Life of a struggle album tours schools in Alex and beyond

Fledgeling Alex musician Eugene "EugeniousSA" Selemela is making music to inspire and heal the youth going through a difficult time.

A youthful Alex musician is going on a healing tour of schools in the township with his music that he believes could just be the right tonic for the struggling.

Eugenious (21) will visit schools across Gauteng from March 19, until April 30, to market his album and spread the healing message contained in it. The Life of a struggle is due for release on June 1.

“Life is a struggle – that is why I named the tour ‘Life of a Struggle Album School Tour’. As human beings we face difficulties and different challenges in life and the sole purpose of this tour is to motivate and empower the youth with tools to navigate those challenges as they can easily relate to the motivational lyrics contained in the album,” Eugenious said.

He added that his music targets the youth because most of his age mates in the various townships have committed their lives to drug and substance abuse and crime due to the various hardships they face daily. “I believe my music can play a positive part and trigger a healing process in their lives.”

The tour is supported by the SABC Kids News Programme, the South African National Council of Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, and the recently launched Community Crime Safety prevention patrollers that have become commonly known as AmaPanyaza.

The group was named AmaPanyaza after the Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, the man behind their formation. Other partners roped into the tour include the Elderly Mighty Warriors, Mr and Miss Heritage Alexandra and the #NoExcuse which deals with gender-based violence and bullying issues in the schools.

“I aim to visit eight schools across Gauteng to motivate kids through my music. I also want to be an easily recognisable face wherever I go as one of the people that had a hand in helping young people to escape from the shackles of drugs and crime.”
During the tour, Eugenious said he will donate essential sanitary items and pads to the learners, including school shoes. “There will also be messages of support and motivation from my various partners on the tour to help spread the word too.”
