Heavy downpours wash away launch of major Alex project

Armsta stalwart John Mnisi says a new date for the launch will be announced soon after a meeting of the various stakeholders.

What was supposed to be the launch of a landmark development project at the 15th Avenue Taxi Rank was washed away by the heavy downpours that engulfed the township on January 10.

Rain pounded Alexandra and flooded the streets of a poorly maintained and dysfunctional rubbish-filled drainage system and the organisers and drivers of the project had no choice but to call off the launch before it could even take off.

The project is the brainchild of the two taxi associations in the township, Armsta and ATA, which were fiercely at each other’s throats only a couple of years ago but have since found each other and made peace and are working closely for the development of the township and upliftment of its community.

Armsta stalwart John Mnisi told Alex News the launch will be re-organised and a date communicated after a meeting of all the stakeholders. He preferred not to go into details on the project, saying it was the subject of the launch and would only be disclosed at the launch event on a date to be announced.

Among the stakeholders are Alex SAPS, Nalesa Media, local scholar transport Asto, Alex News, Alex FM, the Gauteng Provincial Government, the City of Johannesburg and the School Governing Body of Realogile High School.
